05 Mar Mercury’s design work is recognised at national tourism industry awards
A cutting edge design and marketing agency’s creative work has been recognised as part of a national tourism awards initiative.
Mercury Design and Marketing’s design of the Skegness and Mablethorpe 2010 brochure was recognised at the CDM and British Resorts and Destinations Association Awards 2010.
The Hessle-based agency’s talented creative team worked on the project, which was awarded second in class in the Brochure Cover of the Year category of the awards. The design of the brochure was commissioned by Lincolnshire Tourism, as a means of showcasing everything that makes the resorts of Skegness and Mablethorpe a popular destination. Mercury beat off competition from 86 other bidders to become a preferred design supplier for Lincolnshire Tourism for three years.
The British Resorts and Destinations Association (BRADA) is a national body which represents the interests of local authority tourism. The awards were announced at a dinner which formed part of the association’s annual conference, which this year was held at Butlins, in Skegness in June.
Kelly Todd, director at Mercury Design and Marketing, said: “We were delighted to reach this stage in the awards, which recognise excellence in tourism. The award is testament to the hard work of our creative and experienced graphic design team. The brochure looks fantastic and we are all delighted that our work has been rewarded with this prestigious accolade.
“Mercury was commissioned to create a brochure which was striking and attractive, but more importantly one that embodied the tourism potential of Skegness and Mablethorpe. The design quality throughout the brochure certainly does that, and the front cover gives the brochure a unique feel about it and certainly makes you want to find out more about what’s inside.”
Alan Darby, consumer marketing manager at Visit Lincolnshire, said: “We are delighted that the Skegness and Mablethorpe guide has won this prestigious award, amongst some very strong competition from other UK destinations.
“Skegness, Mablethorpe and the entire Lincolnshire coast represent a vital part of the visitor economy in Lincolnshire and gaining recognition like this for the coastal visitor guide is a fantastic endorsement for the work we are all putting in to ensure that the Lincolnshire coast continues to be amongst the UK’s favourite holiday destinations.
“We were extremely pleased with the work that Mercury produced for us in 2009 and are looking forward to producing another award winning guide in 2010.”
The Skegness and Mablethorpe brochure is one of four guides that Visit Lincolnshire has to offer, and has a vast circulation of 70,000. The coastal guide is the main visitor handbook for the area, promoting short breaks, advertising local attractions and generating revenue for the second largest, economically important, industry in Lincolnshire – tourism.
